Pico Road

Pico Road offers a big parking lot for the Glenwood Horse Trail – Google Map From this large parking lot you can run a number of routes:

  1. This is a 10.62 mile loop with 2365ft of climbing – Map
Leave the parking lot onto Pico Road, take a left and run Pico Road approx 2.5 miles, to where Bobbletts Gap road turns off to the left.  This paved road will become gravel and then dirt.  Stay left as there is only one road that turns off of Bobbletts Gap road as it climbs to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Run this to approx. 5.5 miles, where it meets up with the GHT and take a left onto the trail and the initial steep .3 climb.  From here it is a great trail that works it’s way downhill back to the parking lot where you started.
  2. This is a 14.65 mile loop with 3406ft of climbing – Map
Leave the parking lot onto Pico Road, take a left and run Pico Road approx 2.5 miles, to where Bobbletts Gap road turns off to the left.  This paved road will become gravel.  At approximately 4.1 Miles turn right onto Mountain Valley Road (gravel).  Run this .1 mile to a gated road on the left. This road starts out a bit overgrown as it follows the creek but will eventually open up as a dirt road and then gravel.  Run this until you get to Hammond Hollow Trail at about mile 6.6.  This is a great little 1.4 mile long trail that has some serious elevation gain.  It will take you to the Appalachian Trail where you will go left.  Take the AT for .7 mile to the Dirt/Gravel Bobbletts Road.  Take a left on the Bobbletts Gap Road for almost a mile to where the GHT veers off to the right.  The GHT has an initial steep .3 climb and then from here it is a great trail that works it’s way downhill back to the parking lot where you started.
