Are you a Mountain Junkie?
Mountain Junkies L.L.C. strives to be all things trail for the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas. Not only do we host competitive events but we want to introduce you to new areas and adventures.
This website is a work in progress. It will keep you up to date with both, our events, and what we are up to in our own personal and recreational lives (where we've played is on the Adventures page and what races we've been in are on the About Us page). In addition, I try to add trail information as we explore new areas and I purchase new technology. If you've visited the Carvins Cove section of the Roanoke Trails page you will notice new mileage listings along with trail elevation profiles for most of the trails there.
Of course we can't do all of this alone. If you have a desire to help or suggestions of what you would like to see, please let us know.
We have a lot to explore and share with you. We need more Mountain Junkies to make us feel normal.
Why run with Mountain Junkies L.L.C.?
1. We put on great races.
2. We have great volunteers.
3. We have well marked courses.
4. We have great post race food.
5. We spend over 100hrs each year helping to maintain the area trails.
Check out the schedule and get signed up for the RNUTS X. The 10th year is sure to be a good one.
Seems like this info has slowly made it around the community of trail users looping around Chestnut Ridge.
The area was once mined for iron ore. Once you consider this, the trail on the west side of the parkway spur starts to take on a different look.
As I find info on it I’ll try to post it here or to the Frozen Toe page. But John Carlin did a good write up here – http://johncarlinsvirginia.blogspot.com/2011/11/of-giant-holes-and-iron-mines.html
